MirrorMingo AI: How a Nigerian EdTech Platform Is Using AI Tutors That Speak Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo and Pidgin to Transform Learning and School Management

The Nigerian edtech platform, built by Satryx AI, pairs AI voice tutors with the national curriculum, exam preparation and a complete school management system, and it keeps working when the internet doesn't.

Ask any Nigerian teacher why a bright student fails Physics and you will rarely hear "not enough content". The content exists. What is missing is someone to explain it in a way that lands: patiently, at the student's pace, and sometimes in the language the student thinks in at home. In classes of 60 or more, that someone is usually not there.

MirrorMingo AI is built to fill that gap.

A tutor who talks, in your language

At the centre of the product is an AI voice tutor. A learner picks a class, subject and topic, and the tutor teaches the lesson out loud, with worked examples, pictures, quick checks and review cards, while live captions follow every word. The learner can then ask follow-up questions by voice.

Lessons follow the Nigerian national curriculum from Basic 1 through senior secondary, and the platform also covers undergraduate study. Lessons are not limited to English. With one tap, primary school learners can switch a lesson, and the whole app, into Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba or Nigerian Pidgin, with secondary classes next.

Each language has its own tutor. Oma teaches in English, Rahma in Hausa, Folake in Yoruba and Grace in Nigerian Pidgin. Translation alone was not enough for this. The team trained its own speech models so the tutors can speak and understand Nigerian languages, including the way students naturally switch between English and their home language mid-sentence.

Global AI products are built for English first. A tutor that speaks the languages hundreds of millions of Africans grew up with is far harder to copy.

From "what's wrong" to "what to do next"

When a student opens the app, they don't see a library. They see one clear instruction, such as: "Improve your Physics score. You scored 40% in Physics, and you need 70% to pass." One tap opens the right lessons.

Progress is shown the way a parent would ask about it: "You're passing 4 of 7 subjects", with each subject's strong and weak topics named.

For exams, MirrorMingo AI holds a bank of more than 32,000 past questions, each with an answer, covering WAEC, NECO, JAMB, BECE and Common Entrance, with timed mock exams and explanations.

Built for African connectivity

Most edtech assumes steady data. MirrorMingo AI doesn't. The phone app keeps lessons and progress on the device, works offline, and syncs when a connection returns. A desktop app serves school computer rooms, and students can chat with Mingo on WhatsApp and Telegram without installing anything.

Keeping students coming back

Learning earns Mingo Sparks, and learners compete in the Arena: class-by-class rounds that end in a monthly final with prizes. Interactive science labs let students run experiments their school may not have equipment for. Career Bridge helps senior secondary students link their subject choices to real careers, skills and business ideas.

The school, not just the student

The second half of the platform is MirrorMingo AI for Schools. A school runs admissions, attendance, timetables, results and report cards in the format Nigerian schools already use (continuous assessment and exam scores, class position and broadsheet) in one place. Fees are paid straight into the school's own bank account. Parents follow their child's progress from their own dashboard, and school leaders get early warning on which students and subjects are slipping.

When a school adopts MirrorMingo AI, its pupils can learn with its AI tutors too. That turns one school decision into a personal tutor for every child in it.

Why it matters

Nigeria has one of the largest school-age populations in the world, and most of those children will never have a private tutor. The same is true across West Africa, where millions of students sit the same WAEC exams that MirrorMingo AI already prepares them for.

MirrorMingo AI's bet is that a tutor who speaks the learner's language, knows the syllabus and still works on a weak connection can close part of that gap. It is also betting that schools will want to give that tutor to every pupil.

As with any education product, the real test will be results. The platform was built with that in mind: subject scores, exam readiness and school-wide reports are part of it from day one.
